CRISPR or gene editing - Class presentation

On 21 March 2018, Andy and Woon presented about CRISPR and gene editing. From their presentation, I was able to know more about CRISPR, gene editing and GMO products. they did a deep analysis about gene, the objective of gene editing, and the effect of CRISPR to the environment. They able to present us the knowledge they learned from this topic and use their critical thinking skill to answer the questions from the audience.

Not only their presentation provided many information about this topic, but also they able to grab the audience's attention. In the presentation, Woon act like a lecturer and Andy act like a students. Their presentation was funny enough to make everyone focus on their presentation. This is a very powerful and efficient way to do a presentation.

I did some research about GMO products few months ago. GMO is an animal or plant whose genetic material has been changed in order to incorporate new genes, which potentially cause serious health issues if consumed by humans (Chait, 2017). The scary thing is that most of the food products such as ice cream, bread and oil contain GMO products. For an example, most of the ice cream companies uses milk or cream from cows treated with the artificial growth hormone rBGH which cause their ice cream to include GMO ingredients (Anya, 2015). There is no way for us to 100% escape from gene editing food products. However, we can check the contain of the food products before we buy the product, this may reduce the chances for us to consume GMO products. Most of the seedless fruits are gene editing product, some of the snacks foods like ice cream and potato chips contain GMO products. Decrease the consumption of gene editing food products reduce the posibility for us to take in the by-product of CRISPR products.
