Crime-fighting robot - Class Presentation
What is crime-fighting robot?
Wow, what an interesting design! Wait, is this our crime-fighting robot? It looks heavy and huge! Will it helps to defend us and fight back when we are facing a criminal?
No actually...
Huh? Then why do we call it a fighting robot when it can't help to defend us? I bet it can't defend itself too!
Well, it helps us to fight back the criminal in another way.
According to the presentation from Zheng Jia Jie and Tan Jing Wen, this crime-fighting robot consist of many component that help us to detect criminal activities. These components include thermal imaging, infrared, 360-degree high definition video capture camera and many other sensor options that help us to detect suspicious activities and keep our environment safe. Crime-fighting robot can moves around and help us to detect social problem such as vandalism and robbery. After detect a crime activity, it will record and sent the warning to guardhouse, and therefore the guard able to take action in time. It can prevent and minimize the social problem and criminal activity.
The presenter did a great job to help the audience understand more about this technology. They talked about the feature about this robot, discuss about advantage and disadvantage about this robot, and did a case study about this topic. I think their presentation is clear, full of content and well organized.
I think the first presenter did a great job to deliver the information about this robot. His presentation is confidence and his voice is clear. Second presenter is a little bit weak and shy compare to the first presenter, but still she was able to deliver her message clearly. Both of them done a good job in presentation.
During Q & A, first presenter able to answer most of the questions asked by audience. Second presenter was a bit shy to answer the questions asked by audience, but first presenter able to guild her to answer the questions. I think this is a very good team spirit. This encouraged the the second presenter to speak more during the Q&A session.
Go back to this topic. I dont think this crime-fighting robot is suitable to implement in our country. First of all, this robot is too weak to fight back the criminal. Even if it able to detect a crime, it is too slow to chase for the criminal. Criminal will still have the chance to escape. Secondly, the maintenance fee for this robot is too high. If the robot is damaged, it will be very costly to fix its component. Thirdly, there are many cheaper and useful technology that able to replace this robot. A combination of CCTV, sound recorder and safely alarm will be able to replace this robot. It is true that these technology unable to move around like crime-fighting robot, but they are more effort able and easier to maintain.
However, I do think that we should study and modify this crime-fighting robot so that it can become more economy friendly to the society. Some of the relatively "less necessarily" components can be removed to reduce the size of the robot so that it could move faster. Flying feature can be added to enlarge the video capture.
